Beginning in February, American and Qatar Airways will codeshare on each other’s flights to and beyond Dohar and within the U.S.
Members of American’s AAdvantage program will be able to earn miles on Qatar-operated codeshare flights.
The agreement is subject to government approvals, which shouldn’t be a problem.
The codesharing is a follow-on to Qatar’s invitation to join the Oneworld alliance in October 2012. It generally takes between 12 and 18 months for an airline to become a fully functioning alliance partner. At that point, AAdvantage members should be able to earn and redeem miles for all Qatar flights, not just codeshares, and members of Qatar’s loyalty program will be able to do the same on American flights.
The addition of Qatar to the partner lineup will add 15 destinations and three countries to the Oneworld route map.
