Talk about a desert oasis! Arizona’s Havasu Falls is a virtual Garden of Eden at the end of a grueling 10-mile hike into the southwest corner of the Grand Canyon. Not many people ever reach the blue-green pools and hundred-foot cascades—they’re too busy fighting crowds at the Grand Canyon’s South Rim—but that’s their loss. Havasu Falls is hard to reach, but it’s worth the effort.
Where is it? The trailhead is about four hours by car from either Phoenix or Las Vegas, the two closest airports. Most people hike to the falls, but mule trips can also be arranged at certain times of the year.
Where should I stay? You can stay at either the Havasu Falls campground or the simple but comfortable Havasupai Lodge in Supai village.
What else should I know? Supai village, a town of just 650 people who live a few miles upriver, is the only place in North America where the postal service still delivers mail by pack animal.
Who’s it for? Hikers, Trekkers, Backpackers, Campers, Adventurers, Landscape Photographers, Waterfall Lovers
