We think the summer heat is making people crazy—airports are melting, parents are smuggling babies, and flight attendants can’t keep it together. Read on for the full details.
The nation’s capital has been in the middle of a heatwave lately, and it was apparently just too hot for the runway at Reagan National Airport. The Washington Post reports that the 100 degree weather had apparently softened the airport tarmac, causing a US Airways flight to get stuck trying to pull away from the gate. The passengers had to disembark and a larger tow was employed to bring the plane out of the rut and away from the gate.
Here’s a tip—if you’re denied entry to a country because your child doesn’t have a visa, do not proceed to get in line for security anyway and zip your kid inside your carry-on. According to ABC News, an Egyptian couple was told by customs officials at Sharjah International Airport that they could not enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE) because they did not have a visa for their son. So, the parents zipped the boy inside a carry-on bag and went through security (UAE airports typically make passengers go through security screening to enter the country), even going as far to put the bag through an X-ray machine, where the baby inside was obviously found. The couple was arrested.
Finally, we hope we’re never on a flight with this flight attendant. The Huffington Post reports a member of a Malmo Aviation flight crew panicked on a flight to Mallorca. She announced that the plane was experiencing technical problems, would be making an emergency landing, and that passengers should assume the crash position. As flyers fainted, screamed, and sobbed, the flight attendant allegedly sat crying and not helping, even after the plane landed. The “technical problem”? Reportedly nothing more than a broken TV that caused smoke in the cabin.
