Optrix Review
So you have an upcoming trip booked to a beach, island, or coastal destination where you’re planning on snorkeling, diving, and swimming. Sounds like a way to make some incredible memories, but the frustrating part of these activities is that you have no way to capture your experiences unless you splurge on a GoPro or risk your phone’s functionality.
I recently took an Optrix underwater phone case on a trip to the Galapagos Islands and used it every day. It protected my phone on bumpy boat rides, long hikes, and snorkel excursions, and its lens options added additional cool functionalities to my camera.
Price and Where to Buy Optrix: The standard Optrix 6 comes with two lenses for $119.95 on the company’s website or for $93.74 on Amazon. A pro lens kit with four total lenses is available for $169.95 on the Optrix website, or for $119 on Amazon. The standard lens kit comes with a zero-degree low-profile lens and a 165-degree wide-angle lens, while the pro lens kit comes with a normal zero lens, 165-degree wide-angle lens, macro lens, and a telephoto double zoom lens. The case is available for iPhone 6/6s and iPhone 5.
How Optrix Rates:
- Usefulness: 8/10 The underwater phone case is extremely durable, especially for those looking to enhance travel photos on an active vacation. You can easily switch between the lenses, and the water-tight case protects your phone when it’s submerged up to 33 feet. It’s also been drop-tested to survive a drop of 20 feet. It’s mountable, and there are additional accessories you can buy to further enhance your photos. The touch screen was a little hard to use underwater, so I recommend using the side shutter button on your phone to take pictures. Also note that you need one of the lens attachments on the case for it to be sealed underwater.
- Value: 7/10 While it is on the expensive side, the case is extremely durable and a great price if you’re doing activities like snorkeling, fishing, boating, kayaking, or diving. Other cases I have tried have failed miserably when trying to shoot underwater, but this one worked great once I got used to using the shutter button on the side of my phone. The pro lens kit is a great deal, giving you four lenses that allow you to take really cool photos.
- Portability: 9/10 The case comes with a wristband that makes it easy to carry and accessible for quick shooting. I kept the inside case on the phone for my whole trip, so I could easily slide it into the outer case.
- Cool Factor: 10/10 You’ll get truly awesome photos underwater and on dry land with this case.
Final Verdict: This case turns your phone into a GoPro. If you’re looking to invest in an underwater case that actually works, I recommend this one. It allows you to shoot high quality photos in and out of the water—making it perfect for active vacations.
