Baguio Transportation
Baguio is a lively mountain town with many resorts, restaurants, shops, lakes, and gardens. The main methods of transportation throughout the city are taxis and Jeepneys, which both have unique benefits.
Jeepneys
Jeepney is simply another name for a jeep, and it’s one of the most common methods of transportation in Baguio. Jeepneys are easy to recognize, as each one is uniquely decorated to capture your attention. These jeeps are a cheap, easy way to get around town, while also getting a glance at the city’s culture and sense of style. Jeepneys are great for traveling short distances and usually cost 7.5 pesos per trip.
Taxis
Taxis aren’t hard to find in Baguio, especially around bus stations, hotels, and air terminals. The pricing varies depending on the distance you’re traveling, as the taxis use meters to track the length of the trip. Using a taxi is more expensive than taking a Jeepney, but there are many benefits to using a cab. Most of the taxi drivers are extremely friendly and honest. The price you’re quoted is the price you pay, and most drivers will hand you back your exact change if you overpay.
While you’re traveling in a taxi, feel free to start up a conversation with your driver, as the majority of them are willing to tell you all about the best local businesses, beautiful sights, and other hidden treasures. If you luck out, you may even come across a driver who knows some folk stories about certain locations, leaving you with interesting tales to tell your friends and family. Don’t be surprised to see that the taxis don’t have air conditioning. Baguio has cold weather during most of the year, so AC isn’t needed.
Maps and Getting Around
While taxi drivers are excellent sources of information, you’ll still want to purchase a map of Baguio, so you have a general idea of where you’re trying to go. Maps are sold at local bookstores and gas stations.
