Jungfrau
Known as the “top of Europe,” Jungfrau is the highest railway station in Europe. The Jungfraubahn train takes passengers through the Swiss Alps to Jungfrau, where there is a viewpoint 3,454 meters (11,333 feet) above Interlaken. Traveling to the peak can be expensive, but the promise of spectacular views makes it one of the top tourist attractions in Switzerland. The train also travels to the towns of Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen.
Trummelbach Falls
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Trummelbach Falls consist of 10 glacier waterfalls hidden inside of a mountain. The water flows through a series of caves at a rate of 20,000 liters of water per second. Be sure to bring a raincoat or extra change of clothes in case you get wet inside this adventurous cave.
Ice Palace
Located at the top of Jungfrau, the Ice Palace is a series of rooms and corridors carved inside of a mountain. From the floors to the ceiling, the entire palace is made of ice and some of the walls are up to 10 meters thick. Inside the palace is a variety of ice sculptures, which are also made entirely of ice.
Paragliding and Hang Gliding
In addition to skiing and snowboarding, Interlaken is also known for its adventurous sports such as paragliding, hang gliding, and sky diving. Gliders describe the experience of soaring above the Swiss Alps as a breathtaking experience and one of the must do attractions in Interlaken. The bird’s eye picturesque view is worth it even for those who are afraid of heights. For those who are nervous about trying one of these sports for the first time, most of the companies in Interlaken pair you with a professional trainer in a tandem seat.
