Lagos Transportation
Located in the western Algarve, Lagos Portugal is a seaside village located about 50 miles from the airport in Faro. After arriving in Lagos, there are several transportation options to get you to your final destination.
Getting to Lagos
The closest airport is Faro, located approximately 90km or 50 miles from Lagos. The easiest and fairly inexpensive way is to take a shared transfer from the airport at about $35/pp. It takes about 1.5 hours depending on the stops. Rock bottom cheapest would be public transportation which requires 2 modes – bus and train – and takes about 2.5 to 3 hours for about $26/PP. he most direct would be a private hire taxi which would cost about $110.
If you fly into Lisbon, there is great train service with a change in Tunes. Takes about 3.5 hours at a cost of $30/pp.
Getting Around
Rental Cars:
Car rental cost about $125 per week for a mid-size 4 door. Parking is easy to find and can be paid by paygo cards purchased at kiosks or with an ATM card. Tip: When looking for parking in the old part of Lagos, there is a pay and park near the Henry the Navigator statue.
Onda Bus:
This is the local bus service that has routes all over Lagos. It runs frequently and a day pass good for all routes is about $5.
Bike Rental:
If you want to explore on your own without being tied to a bus schedule or rental car, Lagos has many options for bike rentals. The cost is about $12 per day and rental spots are located throughout the downtown area. For extra fun, rent one with a side car and bring a buddy along.
Walking:
Walking might be the best way to get around in downtown Lagos. While the streets in old town section are narrow and cobbled, the sidewalks are wide promenades and very suitable for walking or wheelchair accessible. Praia da Batata, the closest beach, is a quick 5 minute walk from city center.
