Bangkok Things to Do
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, and is one of the most diverse and exciting cities in Southeast Asia. While you’re there, taste the food, interact with the locals, and take in the natural beauty and wonder of Bangkok.
The Markets Are Amazing, and Some Float
Like most large cities around the world, open air markets are easy to find in Bangkok. Unlike most anywhere else, some of their markets float. That’s right, in Bangkok you can find fresh produce in the city and on the river. The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market offers a variety of fruit, vegetables, and meat native to Thailand. A few hours outside of the city, it’s a nice day trip for those who want an adventure. Unfortunately, the secret is out on this one. If possible, try to arrive earlier in the day, before the larger groups of tourists show up. While it can be busy, it’s worth the trip, especially for first time visitors to Bangkok. If you don’t feel like leaving the metro area, don’t worry. Bangkok has more than a few markets you can check out.
Street Vendors and Food
Thai food is well known around the globe. While you may be able to find pad thai where you come from, you won’t be find most of the street food offerings anywhere else, but in Bangkok. Walk around the city for a few minutes and you’ll see or smell the local cuisine within minutes. Try grilled chicken, sticky rice, tom kha gai, thai pancakes, and thai noodles. Whether you’re in the mood for meat, veggies, or something sweet, the streets of Bangkok have plenty to offer.
Temples, Palaces, and Shrines
For most of us, it’s not everyday that we can visit a temple, palace, or shrine. In Bangkok, it feels like they’re around every corner of the city. The Grand Palace, one of the busiest and most well-known palaces, is home to Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The locals revere this location for its religious significance. If you visit, respect the men and women who came to pray and pay tribute.
