Baku Shopping
Bakeu is both the largest city and capital of Azerbaijan. Positioned along the Caspian Sea, the city attracts thousands of tourists and boasts plenty of shops and stores for visitors to discover.
Taza Bazaar
Among the many street markets, Taza Bazaar seems to be one of the largest and oldest. The stores there sell almost everything from household goods to food. Visitors will find stands full of colorful fruits and vegetables, nuts, herbs, and oriental spices. It is also a nice place to take photos. Besides fresh fish from the Caspian Sea, some of these stalls also sell the famed Beluga caviar. Caviar (kuru) is one of the Azeri luxuries, and here you can buy it fresh.
Souvenirs
There are many souvenir shops around town, but most of them are conveniently located near each other on Fountain Square and Nizami Street. There are also many in the Old Town, but they mostly sell carpets. The stores on Fountain Street sell mini-carpets, small daggers, swords, silver cup-holders, souvenir back-gammon tables, silk scarves, and miniature dolls. Remember to try and haggle for a bargain, because items are sometimes overpriced. There’s also a small souvenir shop on the street just south of Xagani, near the Pushkin intersection. It sells high quality handmade local crafts and paintings at reasonable prices.
Azerbaijan in a Box
Azerbaijan in a Box produces its gift boxes together with the local artisans, thus everything is locally made, organic, and very authentic. They sell lovely Tea for Two sets, which include local tea, sweets, spices, and traditional tea glasses that are hand-painted. You can also learn how to make traditional Azerbaijani style tea and enjoy it back home.
Other Goods
Brandy from Azerbaijan can be picked up almost anywhere, and a wide variety of carpets are on sell at many locations. These carpets boast everything from traditional motifs to motifs reflecting current events. There is also a market known as Airport Tolkuchka that is quite large. It can take a whole day to explore it all.
