Alicante Warnings and Dangers
While visiting Alicante you’ll encounter several potential dangers, often focused on stealing your goods or money. These are a few tips and warnings to safeguard against these kinds of problems during your Alicante visit.
Theft at the Airport
Having valuables stolen at the airport has become almost commonplace in Alicante. That is why you need to take extra precautions to secure your goods. If you can, keep your valuables in your carry-on. This is the best way to avoid any kind of theft in the airport. If you need to check the baggage you do have a few options. First, invest in a quality padlock. You’ll also see many individuals roll their suitcases completely in plastic. Doing this deters possible thieves from accessing your bag.
Muggers and Pickpocketers
This is the most common form of crime you’ll run into. Many pickpocketers have been practicing their craft for years now, so they are very good at it. In order to avoid muggers, don’t walk down abandoned alleys and stay in lit areas at night. Muggers will not approach you in daylight when there are others in the area. As for a pickpocket, you need to be smart. Don’t leave your wallet in your back pocket. Place your wallet in your front pocket. If you have a purse, sling it over both shoulders. If you’re walking by the street, have your bag on the opposite shoulder as some snatch and grabs occur with motor bikes riding past you. Also, split up your credit cards or keep at least one in a different location. This way, if you are robbed, you still have financial means to get around.
Tram Schedules
The tram schedules do change throughout the week. Additional trams run overnight on the weekends, but these often stop at around 11:30 p.m. or so during the week. Make sure you have a way back to your hotel when out. There are not as many cabs in certain locations, so always look at your surroundings and identify a possible way to leave. The last thing you want is to be stranded in a strange part of town and have to walk a long ways back to your lodging.
