Savannah is one of the most visited cities in Georgia. From the wonderful waterfront to the romantic and serene city market the city’s many historical squares, Savannah offers lots of unique attractions. River Street
Originally the wharf area of the city, River Street is now where you’ll find gorgeous lots of amazing shops and many classic southern restaurants. The cobblestone streets of the main square make an ideal place to stroll on a warm fall day. Take in a boat cruise from Bay Street so you can see the street from the water. River cruises offer a great way to cool off in the summer sun.
Tours
Savannah is a city of historic squares and beautiful buildings. Leave your car at home and take one of the many tours you can find all over the city. A basic two-hour tour will bring you to the historic sites and help you get a feel for the entire city. This is an ideal way to get acquainted with Savannah early in the morning or later in the day when the heat has dissipated.
Many tours allow you to get off and on so you can explore your favorite sites in greater detail. The narrow streets of the historic district make the trolleys an ideal way to get around from place to place. If you prefer the supernatural, take one of the region’s famous ghost tours. Savannah is said to be haunted by many ghosts. Take a tour at night to see cemeteries where the dead from various American wars are buried. The Colonial Park Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in the city, with lots of headstones dating from the Colonial period. It makes an ideal walk during the day if you prefer to see it in the light when you might feel a lot safer. Haunted pub tours are also offered at night from several companies so you can have fun sampling all kinds of local brews from a few regional pubs while you discover where the ghosts still exist.
The City Market
The City Market began in 1755 when fishermen and farmers would bring their goods to sell into the city. Today, this lovely square exists as a pedestrian-only street where you’ll find lots of items for sale and plenty of places to grab a meal from some of the city’s best restaurants and bars. On weekends you can hear live music here.
