Tobermory Things to Do
Many Canadians know this place as a great vacation spot. Whether on land or in the sea, there’s a lot for those who adore the outdoors. Starting at the Visitor’s Center can be a useful way to help figure out what to see and do directly. Guides are happy to point out how travelers can enjoy seeing both Bruce Peninsula National Park and the equally delightful Fathom Five National Marine Park. This is where you’ll find a tower you can climb to get a bird’s eye view of the entire area.
From the Water
Water is everywhere in Tobermory. Local boats offer cruises across the waters here, making it easy to see the water from the deck of a shady ship. Getting out on the water also makes it easy to see the incredible number of birds here. There’s a nesting site for Double Crested Cormorants, one of the largest bird species in the area. Bald eagles can also be seen everywhere overhead. On a hot day, a cruise makes the perfect way to cool off as this part of Canada is often less hot and humid than other parts of the area. The area is known as the world’s SCUBA paradise as there are many shipwrecks that are visible to the naked eye. A local company offers a cruise on a glass bottomed boat, making it easy to get out on the lakes here and see the shipwrecks without the need to take SCUBA lessons. A two hour cruise can make an unforgettable trip as travelers are presented with a combination of blue waters and blue sky.
From Land
Those who want to stay closer to the shore will also find a lot to do here. Camping is encouraged. Cyprus Lake has over 240 campsites, making it easy for any traveler to find one they like. Overnight camping offers travelers a real chance to see the area at night when the stars come out by the millions. The Bruce Peninsula National Park also makes an ideal trip. Travelers can spend hours exploring the area’s many trails across nearly undisturbed forests and local high promontories with amazing views. The park lies along the shores of Lake Huron. A dip in the turquoise waters can be perfectly refreshing. There are many beaches here so you’ll have your pick. Finding a deserted corner makes it easy to get in touch with nature and leave your cares behind. The Burnt Point Loop offers another opportunity to spend time in the wilderness. Trails are well marked and lead to a deeply forested area that is home to many birds and mammals.
