Corfu Island is a Greek Island in the Ionian Sea. As a major tourist attraction, it holds many shops and stores.

The Shops

You can find everything you want in Corfu, from jewelry to leather, books, souvenirs, clothes, shoes, and sunglasses. There are shops of all kinds on Corfu Island, so you can find whatever you need with just a little bit of searching.

The harbor area of Kassiopi makes for a nice day watching the waters or taking a boat trip. When you’re done taking in the local sights, you can also wander to one of the lace shops that’s located along the shore. Greece is famous for its handmade lace and embroidered cotton, and there are lots of choices in the nearby shops. You might also see women at work as they make lace place mats and embroidered tablecloths.

If you want to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, you can visit the local bazaars and markets. Things are typically busy early in the morning, as people go between kiosks selling fresh products that range from vegetables to fruits, flowers, and fish.

The monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands on a rocky promontory on the west coast of the island. According to tradition, the monastery was built in the 13th century. It consists of the church in the center that is surrounded by a complex of courtyards, monks’ cells, storerooms, oil-presses, abbot’s quarters, and an open terrace and garden. The church was probably restored in the 18th century, as indicated by the date carved on the lintel above the main doorway. In the monastery itself is a small museum with Byzantine and Post-Byzantine icons. The little souvenir store inside the monastery is the perfect place to buy hand crafted gifts.

Drinks

Kumquats have been called the little gems of the citrus family, and they can be fermented and distilled into liquors. When wandering around, you’ll find that you can buy these Kumquat based liquors in many of the shops. These shops often include free taste testings as well.

The local markets offer many types of drinks beyond kumquats, including some made from mandoles and mandolato, Most of the stores have the same products, typically kumquat or limoncello drinks. You can also find these drinks at most of the markets with slightly better prices, but the difference is not much. The souvenir shops actually have better bottle shapes, which you might find useful if you want something particularly memorable to take home.
