Gibraltar Transportation
Walking around Gibraltar is easy since everything is close together. However, if you want to head to popular and historic points in the city, or outside the city, you’ll need to use Gibraltar transportation.
Bus and Car
Since there are only nine bus routes around Gibraltar, getting around is easy. You can purchase an all-day pass for a reasonable price. Buses travel to popular landmarks including Europa Point, Alameda Botanical Gardens, the Moorish Castle, and the Great Siege Tunnels. You can find a list of bus routes at Gibraltar Transportation’s website.
If you don’t want to depend on the bus, or plan to be out past nine, you can rent a car. Parking spots are small around town, so larger cars are harder to park.
Planes and Trains
Gibraltar’s international airport is only accessible from Manchester, London, and Luton Airports. It’s open to visitors, but the Royal Air Force also uses it. There isn’t a route from Madrid so you’ll need to travel by train to Algeciras station and then catch the bus across the street to La Linea. Once in La Linea you need only walk across the border into Gibraltar.
Ships, Ferries, and Boats
Gibraltar is a popular cruise ship destination. Tourists arriving by cruise have the options to book excursions organized by ship operators, negotiate a taxi tour with an available driver, or save some money and walk into the city.
Tours
For those staying outside the city, Coaches travel on day trips into Gibraltar. Popular trips include shopping excursions and seeing famous monuments and sites. Mini buses tour the historic and famous sites of Gibraltar from the Rock to Europa Point. In addition, taxi’s offer tours around the city.
