Pattaya Things to Do
One of the largest resorts in Thailand, Pattaya makes the ideal place to head for a quick getaway from Bangkok city life.
Beaches, calm waters local Thai food make this one of the most favorite destinations in this part of Asia.
Walk the Beach
Pattaya Beach is a narrow strip of sand that can get crowded. Come here early for a good place on the beach. There are benches, inner tubes and other sea things for rent. Almost anything else you want can be purchased from hawkers who stroll the beach offering everything from newspapers and lottery tickets to seafood, fruit, ice cream and a substantial lunch. This is the place to try lots of water sports like water skiing, parasailing and jet skiing. The other major beach in the area is Jontiem. This is a good place for families to sit together and watch the sunset. It’s also less touristy than the other beach. Sample area specialties such as papaya salad and grilled fish.
Koh Larn Island
Another place to enjoy the beaches in the area is Koh Larn Island. You can get there via a public ferry or take a private boat. Get here early to reserve a place to sit before the boats leave. The ferry will take about an hour while the private speedboat is typically about half as fast. You can find the ferry and boats at Bali Hai pier. You can laze on the beaches on the island and then rent a scooter so you can have a better look. There’s a high point that will give you an impressive view of the entire island. This is the island for the best area snorkeling and SCUBA diving. Go further out and the island sands drop off about thirty feet, making it easy to see the reefs here. Take what is known as the banana boat for a special ride. This long boat gets hauled behind a jet ski for a unique trip and a chance to splash out.
See the Animals
Explore the local area wildlife in person. Head for the Million Years Stone Park & Pattaya Crocodile Farm. A short cab ride from the metro area, it makes a great way to get to know the animals in this part of Thailand. Watch as local people wrestle with huge crocs and then feed them yourself. The park also showcases other animals including elephants, camels, lions and tigers. For another look at the tigers, check out the Sri Racha Tiger Zoo. The zoo has a large collections of many other animals like pigs, rabbits and sheep. For a look at the life under the water, check out Underwater Pattaya. This small aquarium offers a look at some of the many marine mammals and fish just off shore in a safe environment.
