Venice Beach Warnings and Dangers
Going to Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California? Follow these warnings about potential dangers to have the most fun.
Panhandlers
Homeless people in Los Angeles aren’t uncommon, and many congregate in the Venice Beach area. Some are aggressive and professional panhandlers, but most are harmless.
Swimming Dangers
The ocean water at the Venice Beach area is polluted. Pollution increases after a rain storm because the street debris from the city streets runs down the storm drains to the ocean. Swimmers in polluted water run the risk of getting infections, which commonly show up as an ear infection if ocean water gets into the ear canals.
Parking, Car Break-Ins, and Auto Theft
Street parking is very hard to find and even if you find it, the hours will not be long enough to enjoy Venice Beach, so most people opt for the paid parking lots, which range in price from $4 to $11 per day, depending on the time you enter and the day of the week. Unfortunately, paying for parking does not increase the security for the vehicle. In fact, it makes the vehicle a more likely a target for a break-in or theft in you park in a place where your vehicle is not easily seen. Parking and theft is an issue, so park in the open as close as possible to the parking attendant’s booth.
Other ways to avoid this problem are either to have someone else drop you off or park your car in the much safer, nearby Santa Monica public parking lots, which are supervised and walk from Santa Monica to Venice Beach.
