Krabi Warnings and Dangers
Are you headed off to Krabi for your next vacation or travel adventure? Don’t leave without knowing all of the warnings and dangers that the area holds.
Mind The Weather
Krabi is well known for its tremulous weather and tsunamis. Each beach you visit will have a sign telling you where to go in case a tsunami is coming. It’s important to read these signs before unpacking at the beach. The parts of the land that gets hit worst by tsunamis will have a detailed evacuation route as well, so make sure you read these carefully.
You also don’t want to be too confident, just because you have a crisp, clear morning does not mean that it will be like this all day. The weather can turn on a dime and many people have found themselves out on the water, island hopping, in long tail boats. No matter how good of a swimmer you are or how nice the weather is when you wake up, always have a life jacket on you if you are out on the water.
Hiking and Walking
If you are planning to take a walk around the nature trail at Sra Morakot (Emerald Pool) be sure to wear proper shoes as the area can be very treacherous to walk on. While it is absolutely worth the walk, children should be watched carefully and it’s best not to try it at dark or near dark. It is also best to leave the pool by 4:30, because with the jungle overhead it can look much darker than it actually is.
No matter where you are walking and hiking in Krabi, it is important to be prepared for any storms or weather that may come your way. In general, keep a rain coat on you, mosquito spray, and plenty of water. As mentioned previously, wherever you travel to in Krabi, make sure you know the evacuation routes in case a tsunami strikes.
Recreational Services
Whether you are hiring someone to take you boating, snorkeling, or sight-seeing, it is important to do your research. Compare the companies in the area for the best deal and ask a few locals about the companies reputation (as well as jump online and read about them before you shell out any money).
If you are going elephant trekking, make sure the company taking you is mindful of the animals and that they are licensed to do so. Many tourists say to make sure they don’t use a metal hook on the elephants, don’t go to areas that have elephants in the sunlight all day long as elephants like their shade and grazing time, and look like they are an established business who truly cares about the elephants before you give your money to them.
