Busan’s variety of transportation enables tourists to get in and out quite easily. The cost is reasonable and most avenues of travel are efficient for English speaking only visitors.

Taxi, Subway, Bus, and Train

The Taxi system in Busan is a great way to travel and quite affordable. Taxi drivers want to be your tour guide taking the scenic route. This works out for all parties if you want the tour – since the meter will continue running. Beware though, most taxi drivers do not speak English so you might want to write down your destination if there is no one to translate. There is no tipping in South Korea.

The subway seems to be the most convenient way to get around in Busan. There are 4 stations that are labeled in Korean, English, and Chinese. There are maps in every station to prevent you from getting lost.

There are two buses that run- one for Busan city stops and one for longer journeys. They are comfortable but most of the time crowded. Buses quit running at midnight.

Korea has two trains-a normal train and a bullet train. The KTV bullet train gets you to your destination much faster and costs about ten dollars more. The scenery is great.

Ferries

Busan has several ferries going to Japan, Fukuoka, Shimonoseki, Osaka, Hiroshima, Kitakyushu and Tsushima. Such a beautiful and relaxing way to travel if you have the time.

Flying

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines offer about 40 flights a day from Seoul’s Gimpo airport to Busan’s Gimhae airport and vice versa. The Gimhae is about 1 hour outside the city.
