Whether you’re sailing off into the sunset or getting caught in the rain, water is something you should be prepared to handle on vacation—especially when it comes to travel tech accessories. From cameras to phones, wet electronics can really put a damper on your trip. Thankfully, there are plenty of waterproof travel tech accessories for travelers. Here are a few of our favorites.
Waterproof Phone Case
If you’re like me, your phone is always close. In pursuit of the perfect picture, I’ll wade into water, carrying my phone above my head, trying not to get it wet. However, if you don’t want to worry about water, invest in a waterproof phone case. (And not just one of those cheap plastic bags they’re selling at every tourist stand these days.) If you have an iPhone, check out the Proshot, which is also built with a GoPro mount, so you can really up your travel photography game.
Waterproof Watch
One of the most useful waterproof travel tech accessories you can have in your arsenal, a waterproof watch delivers in water and on dry land. Though it looks simple, the Nixon Base Tide is a great watch that is easy to read in bright sunlight and also keeps track of high and low tides. However, for a waterproof watch that can share a little more information, check out the Polar M430. This waterproof running watch can tell you your heart rate, GPS-location, and can help runners track their goals.
Waterproof Phone Chargers
Maybe you thought far enough ahead to keep your phone safe from the sea’s watery grasp, but didn’t anticipate that leaky water bottle in your backpack spilling all over your phone charger. A sturdy and reliable phone charger is just as important a travel accessory as a waterproofed phone, so make sure to invest in a phone charger that can stand up to water. If you’re searching for an external battery also, you can double-up with the waterproof FosPower Power Bank, which is also shock-resistant and dust-proof. Or, go the wireless charger route with this waterproof wireless charger from Cubevit, which will work with any Qi-Wireless-enabled smartphone.
Waterproof Camera
If you plan on taking underwater photographs, you might want to invest in a small waterproof point-and-shoot to keep handy. These are great for snorkeling and diving, plus you’ll have a lot less anxiety than if you took your phone underwater. The Nikon Coolpix W300 is one such dedicated camera capable of shooting time lapses and 4K video. Or, check out the Olympus Tough TG-5, a rugged camera model that also shoots 4K video and has different modes for filming underwater, so you can shoot wide or macro photographs.
Waterproof Bag
Invest in a good waterproof bag to stash the travel tech accessories you can’t waterproof. From the makers of the famously-durable Otterbox phone cases, the airtight Otterbox Duffel has waterproof zippers—and can even be worn as a backpack. If you just need a sturdy bag for a day at the beach, check out the Pacsafe Dry 36L Beach Bag, which is made of sturdy splashproof material and comes with anti-theft features like a locking system and slash-proof straps.
