Transportation in Philadelphia: 30th Street Station
The 30th Street Station is the main railroad transportation hub in Philadelphia where Amtrak, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), and New Jersey Transit trains all meet. Here are some things you should know about the 30th Street station when visiting Philadelphia.
About the Station
This fine elegant train station was built in 1934 in the classical revival architectural style with an extremely high ceiling and an information desk in the center. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The station serves over 20,000 commuters and travelers daily. The shops are generally open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The station is located just north of Market Street between 29th Street on the east side of the station and 30th Street on the west side of it.
Getting to Other Modes of Transportation
Subways, trolleys, several city buses, and a couple of inter-city bus lines (but not Greyhound) are close by. You want to go to the far right of the south side of the station and follow the sign that says “Subway Trolleys Buses” to find the transportation you need to use to get around the Philadelphia area.
Taxi service from the main concourse is found upon exiting at the 29th Street side of the station. This area is also the place for passenger drop-offs and pick-ups as well as short-term parking.
The corridor to the tracks for the regional rail systems is found in the northwest corner of the main concourse to the left of exit labeled ‘9’ and the rental car office. The sign is pretty clear. Just up this corridor is informational displays, a ticket office, and the stairs up to the rail tracks. There is also a vending machine for NJ Transit Rail — one can ride Septa to Trenton, transfer to the NE Corridor towards New York City, and then get to almost anywhere in New Jersey.
Food and Restrooms
Many restaurants and shops are just south of the main concourse. You can find restrooms and Club Acela by going to the North Concourse through the exit labeled ‘5’. One restaurant that comes highly recommended is Delilah’s Southern Cuisine. Open 7 days 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
