Tips on Avoiding Bar Harbor Tourist Traps

Bar Harbor Tourist Traps

Bar Harbor is a town on Mount Desert Island with just 5,000 permanent residents. Bar Harbor is located in Maine, contrary to popular belief that it is in the south or on an island itself.

Avoiding Geddy’s

Geddy’s is a restaurant that is notable throughout the area of Bar Harbor. Not only does the location serve food, but it also offers a myriad of souvenirs and items to lure additional tourists in so they are more willing to spend money. Unfortunately, many individuals discovered that the food that is served at Geddy’s is in fact, not fresh. Instead, Geddy’s serves food that is pre-packaged and frozen, which has turned many of the usual patrons to eat elsewhere.

Parking Tickets on the Rise

Whenever you are in Bar Harbor and need to park your vehicle for an extended period of time, be sure to check for signs and warnings regarding the time you are allowed to keep your vehicle parked in that area. Many tickets are often issues of tourists who are unaware of the parking time rule, causing upset in most cases. Even those who want to park close to or on various beaches are likely to get ticketed even if they are parked for two to three hours at the max.

Overcrowded With Tourists in Some Areas

Many areas of Bar Harbor are not only overcrowded with tourists on vacation, but it has also been reported that many of the shops intended for residents and tourists are quite rundown, giving them a less than great rating altogether.  Additionally, there are often hundreds of both small boats and large ships that surround the area, causing residents and tourists to avoid these areas for swimming or having fun. While it may seem to be okay if boats are sometimes docked at Bar Harbor, over time this has become an increasingly obnoxious trend to residents and visitors who have frequented the harbor in the past. Because of the low population in total for permanent residents residing in Bay Harbor, there has been a multitude of reports and complaints to local officials about reducing the number of tourists that are allowed to visit, especially during times of the year where residents enjoy the harbor the most.
