Cebu City Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Cebu City Transportation

If you’re trying to find out more about Cebu City transportation in the Philippines, here’s how to get around by land, air, and sea.

From the Airport

From the airport, your best bet to get to the city center is likely going to be a taxi. However, there are sometimes buses available for locals that can take you to other parts of the city— where you can then catch a cheaper taxi to your hotel. Otherwise, only taxis or rental cars can get you from the airport. White taxis are typically cheaper than the yellow taxis, so if you can get a white one, then it’ll save you a few pesos. You may also see a Multicab while you’re there which is the cheapest option of all. However, it appears that tourists are having a difficult time finding anything other than the Yellow taxis at Cebu Mactan.

Take the Bus, Then Take the Ferry

If you’re planning to go to Bantayan Island, then there’s a ferry you can catch from Hagnaya Port. To get to Hagnaya Port you’ll have to catch a bus from Cebu City to Hagnaya. Weather conditions are something to plan ahead for, as they may delay you overnight. The ferry takes about an hour, and it’s fairly basic accommodations. It’s not the cleanest, but there are places to score food and drinks on the boat.

Jeepneys

There are Jeepneys and Multicabs in and around Cebu City for getting around within the town or just outside of it. The Multicabs are smaller than Jeepneys, but they both work by taking more people to their destination than just you and your party. You can take some comfort in that fact that it should be fairly easy to talk to the drivers, so they can assure you that you have the right route. Another bonus is that they run at all hours of the night. If you can’t find one of them though, there are always taxis that can come get you.

General Tips

There are two bus terminals named for their cardinal directions: South and Northbound. However, many people say that the schedules and the reliability of these buses makes them difficult to take. Tourists with tight schedules opt to take taxis when they can. Drivers aren’t necessarily always honest though. If a driver tries to tell you the meter is broken, it’s probably best to find a different driver. It also notes that this city is negotiation friendly, meaning you might want to break out your skills and start trying to talk your way down in price.
