Santiago de Compostela Transportation
There are plenty of transportation options when traveling to, in and from Santiago de Compestla. Here are some tips for using the best travel methods for your particular needs.
Bus From the Airport
Instead of paying for a taxi to take you from the airport into town, you can also take the bus service. It takes a bit longer, but it is less expensive. The bus runs between the airport and Plaza de Galicia. If you are new to the city and haven’t booked a hotel yet, this is a great place to start. The bus will stop at Pazo de Congresos, Capilla San Lazaro and the train station along the way.
Bus From Other Cities
Bus travel is especially popular in this area of the country and often is less expensive than train travel. While it may take a bit longer and you won’t have as much room to stand and stretch, it is still comfortable with large seating options. Monbus is the main service provider, while Alsa also offers bus travel between Santiago and Lisbon and Porto. Some international busses travel from Pontevedra, Spain. The Santiago bus station is about 15 minutes outside of the main part of town. You can hail a cab, take a local bus, or simply walk the remainder of the way. If you already have a hotel booked, hailing a cab may be your best bet.
Taxi
Hailing a taxi is pretty straight forward. Make sure your cab driver uses the meter in the vehicle and you’ll be good to go. Never accept a quoted price for a cab ride, regardless of if you’re coming from the train station, airport or bus terminal. The meter will always be less expensive.
Train
Whether you’re coming from Paris, Barcelona or somewhere else, train travel is fast and affordable. While not as cheap as bus travel, you can move around freely and pick up food in other train cars. From the train station, you can grab the same bus that runs from the airport to the center of town.
