Tips on Alice Springs- Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Uluru is one of the wonders of Australia. Many people choose to stay in Alice Springs on the way there and may be unaware of certain hazards in this centrally-located Australian town.

Alice Springs Warnings and Dangers

Alice Springs makes an ideal place to visit on the way to Uluru or as a destination in itself. However, the town has dangers that travelers need to know about. The region is a scenic one, but there are lots of potentially dangerous creatures lurking almost everywhere you go.

Take Care When Walking

This part of Australia teems with dangerous snakes. One of the most dangerous is the Eastern Brown snake, the second most venomous land snake in the world. They like to sun themselves on local rocks but they can also be found in muddy areas and rivers.

Natural Hazards

The River Gum Trees may look inviting but the trees have been known to drop branches when you’re not expecting it, so don’t camp under them. Branch fallings are more common during the summer. Always have a lot of bottled water on hand so you don’t get dehydrated and bring sunscreen and a hat. Be careful as well about going off the main roads as you can get lost easily.

Other Issues

There are many Aboriginal people that live here, so it’s important to be as respectful as possible to their culture and try to avoid confrontation. It’s best to stay to well traveled areas where both groups mix. Some people also report low level crimes in the area. Secure your belongs in places like the Big 4 MacDonnell Ranges Tourist Park. Keep in mind that internet access can be hard to find.
