Bologna is a lively Italian city with a large university population and some of the best food in Italy. Getting around the city is easy if you plan carefully and know your options.
Bologna Transportation
You have many choices when it comes to getting to and around Bologna. The city’s extensive public transport lines will take you right where you want to go.
Getting There
Bologna’s main airport is not one of the larger airports in Italy, but it will get you to the immediate area. Getting from the airport can be best done by taking a bus. Bologna’s Aerobus is an easy way to get into the town center. It’s inexpensive and has room for your luggage. The trip will take about fifteen minutes and because buses run every twenty minutes, you should only have a short wait. If you are traveling here from another part of Italy, you can take a train. The train stops at a centrally-located station where you can take a bus to the central square. You can take a taxi, but it will cost more. There is another, smaller airport in the area called Forli that many budget lines fly into, but be aware that this airport is much farther way from the main city.
Getting Around the City
Getting around the city is easy. It’s not hilly and the center is fairly compact. You can bring a car here but parking is often hard to find. In that case, you might want to consider renting a scooter or a bicycle. Renting a bike for a day will make touring easier on your feet. Buses are also another good option. You can take a bus tour of the city when you first arrive. After that, you’ll find several bus lines in the city that are cheap and run frequently and you can pay the fare once you get on. Make sure you have cash, as they will not take credit. The bus lines center around the central bus station so you can always pick one up there. The main bus station is very conveniently located next to the main train station.
