Farmington is full of wonderful nature and beautiful parks. During your visit to the area, there will be plenty to do to keep you busy.

Welcome Center

Your first stop should be at the Great River Road Welcome Center to pick up the available brochures, maps and information. It’s recommended you take a few minutes to view the video tour; it’s really well done and quite informative. This welcome center is open year-round and provides public restrooms. There is plenty of parking and tours are available.

Beautiful Parks

Engler Park boasts angler’s lakes, outstanding playground areas, picnic shelters, bike trails, jogging and walking paths, basketball courts, and a huge multi-use pavilion with electricity, water and lots of parking. There’s a nature observatory too. The trails are easy to walk and have pretty scenery.

Next to Engler Park is the Dr. F. R. Crouch Nature Sanctuary (maintained by East Ozarks Audubon Society). There are bird feeding stations that hold sunflower seed, niger seed, and suet blocks for the birds. There have been more than 25 wintering species spotted at this station.

Other parks near Farmington include:

• Hawn State Park – Near Ste. Genevieve this park is lovely with its forest of trees, sandstone bluffs, canyons, and its clear sand-bottom streams. Also, there are waterfalls, rare plants and wildflowers to enjoy.
• Pickle Springs Natural Area – Operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation, it is recognized for its biological and geological values and as an “undisturbed site”.
• Elephant Rocks State Park – There are giant granite rocks in Belleview. Almost 1.5 billion years ago, hot magma cooled and formed coarsely crystalline red granite which later weathered into huge rounded boulders. The largest elephant rock is Dumbo – it weighs 680 tons!

Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary

Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary was established as a permanent home for exotic tigers. The facility brings awareness to the dangers these beautiful tigers face in the wild and in captivity. There is a restaurant and lodging at this facility. Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary is funded by a non-profit 501c3 Corporation, and all proceeds go directly for the care of the animals.

Civil War buffs will enjoy nearby Fort Davidson State Historic Site in Pilot Knob, Missouri. Farmington is near wine country and you can sample some great wines. Note: There are not too many places open for tasting on Mondays.
