Goa Travel Guide

Considering visiting Goa, India? There’s plenty to do and see. Here are some tips and suggestions to take into account when planning your vacation.

Dudhsagar Waterfalls

The Dudhsagar waterfalls cascade for miles down a rocky, tree covered cliff. There are dozens of excellent vantage spots to see the water cut and rolls down the mountainside like giant veins in a stone arm. Just make sure to have your camera on hand to capture the location.

Baga Beach

Unlike other turbulent beaches around India, the water is calm here. You can swim and don your bathing suit or simply check out some of the excellent food vendors here. Baga beach is a great spot to explore and kick back.

Fort Aguada

This historic fort was constructed during the 16th century by Portuguese explorers and settlers. Fort Aguada is the largest fort in all of Goa and a great history lesson on how so much of the worked was influenced by European conquest.

Panaji – Panjim City

This is the capital city of Goa. In Panaji, or Panjim City, you’ll see more influence of the British. The bright white used in the construction of these buildings stands out beautifully against the light blue sky and the lush vegetation.

Basilica of Bom Jesus

Located in Old Goa, this basilica is different from what you might see in Europe or other largely Christian destinations. Whether you are a fan of religious sites or simply historic architecture, this is a great stop. Remember it’s still an active church and there may be worshipers in and around the grounds. Be respectful of them and avoid taking their picture while inside.

Anjuna Flea Market

One of the most famous flea markets not only in Goa but in all of India is the Anjuna Flea market. You can find just about anything here, ranging from clothes and silks to bags, shoes or other trinkets. Just make sure to watch your personal belongings while shopping.

Tips and Warnings

You will need to be mindful of illicit drug use in Goa. Typically drug use is concentrated in certain sections, but after a few days in and around the city, you’ll probably see some instances of drug use.
