Saint Lucia Warnings and Dangers
Saint Lucia is a gorgeous place to visit with scenic vistas and pristine beaches, make sure to follow the below warnings to make the most of your visit.

The Elements/Environment
Sun: Saint Lucia is closer to the equator, therefore the sun is much stronger there. Wearing wide brim hats, pants, and long sleeves can help reduce your exposure to the sun. Sunblock can also help to prevent major burns; reapply every couple of hours to get the maximum benefit of the sunblock. Also, seek shade as much as possible, particularly during the hottest times of the day
Insects: Mosquitos tend to really thrive in tropical climates and Saint Lucia is no exception. Using insect repellant can be very helpful to combat the pesky mosquitos as can wearing long sleeves and pants. Besides making you itchy, mosquitos do have the potential to carry disease, so take caution.
Snakes: There is one poisonous snake on the island of Saint Lucia, the “Fer-de-Lance”. It is brown and/or black with pale yellow or cream-colored bands that crisscross the back and sides of the body, this species has a large head, which is shaped triangularly and is larger than its neck. This type of snake will make a significant noise which should be a good signal to get away.
Overly Aggressive Vendors
As with many tourist destinations, you will be approached by vendors trying to sell you their wares. Be particularly cautious as some of these vendors might be selling items that would not pass through customs, for example, items made from palm fronds or coconut husks, since these are considered vegetation. Items like this may be confiscated by airport security or customs agents. These vendors can also be persistent, and sometimes a polite “no thank you” will simply not suffice and you might have to be quite firm to get them to leave you alone. Additionally, you may be approached to buy drugs, so just keep walking and ignore the person.
Avoiding Theft and Crime
Try not to travel outside of tourist areas without an experienced guide who can advise you on where it is safe to go and where it isn’t. As with any new place, always be aware of your surroundings and don’t flaunt cash or valuables.
