Honolulu offers several forms of public transportation for tourists who want to see and do as much as possible during their visit.

Rent A Car

With limited parking available, tourists to Honolulu who are interested in renting a car are urged to choose a smaller model. As many of Honolulu’s residents don’t drive, much of the vehicles on the road are busses and other forms of public transportation.

Taxis

For those who would rather not drive in Hawaii, taxis are available. There are several cab companies that tourists can choose from, some of which will transport them to and from the airport. For the most part, taxi rides in Honolulu are paid at a flat rate, depending on where someone is going. However, in general, taxi drivers in Honolulu expect to receive a tip when they have transported a passenger to their desired destination.

Waikiki Trolley

The Waikiki Trolley is modeled after the old-fashioned trolleys seen on the streets of San Francisco. Passengers can purchase tickets for the trolley tour which shows them around Waikiki and allows them to get off at any of the many attractions the trolley stops at along the way, including Iolana Palace and the Waikiki Aquarium.

The trolley follows many different lines, one of which drops passengers off at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, making it the perfect form of transportation for anyone staying there during their visit. The various lines the trolley travels on are identified by colors. The red line is the Honolulu City Line, which takes passengers to many of the area’s most historical sites. The  blue line takes passengers to destinations such as Diamond Head. The pink line is popular among tourists who love to shop as it takes passengers to the largest shopping center in Hawaii.
