Perth, the beautiful capital city of Western Australia, is known for its surrounding beaches and diverse wildlife. Depending on when you decide to travel and what activities you participate in, there are many ways to pack for Perth

Luggage

Bring a backpack or rucksack along. It’s easy to carry when you are out and about, especially if you’re in the outdoors.

Seasonal Clothing & Accessories

The time of year you decide to visit will help you determine what clothing you should bring.

Winter months, i.e. the rainy season, fall between June and August. During that time, Perth experiences mild winters. It never snows, but it may get cold particularly in the evening. You should pack close-toed shoes (such as sneakers or boots) and warmer clothing such as jeans or pants, long sleeved shirts, wool socks, a medium weight jacket, and a scarf, are ideal. Because it rains a lot, it’s strongly advised you bring a raincoat and an umbrella.

The spring, summer, and autumn months, September to May, bring very comfortable weather but also extreme heat, particularly in the summer. Cool, lighter clothing, such as clothes made of light cotton, shorts and T-shirts will work well. Don’t forget a hat and sunglasses. Even in the springtime the UV index can rise to 10, despite a comfortable temperature of 23 degrees Celsius. Because of this, sunscreen is extremely important to have on you at all times.

Camping, Beach, and General Outdoor Gear

Footpaths and walking trails are well made to ensure against any missteps, but in any case, good, sturdy walking shoes are a must.

There are many great spots to go camping and bush-walking. If you want to bring your own camping supplies, mosquito nets, and insect repellent are the best for pesky insects. It is also recommended you bring a backpack, sleeping bag, two-way radio, torch, and some matches. These supplies are readily available in Perth.

The beaches are beautiful when visiting in the warmer months. Bathing suits, beach towels, sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen are essential.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies

General toiletries should be readily available in the city for purchase but if you have other specific toiletries, bring them with you. Consider buying or bringing lip balm (many have an SPF good for all the sun and the dry climate), a basic First Aid kit, and creams and oils, such as Lanolin moisturizer cream or emu oil products (also for the dry climate and the high daily range of temperature).
