Goa What to Pack
In Goa, the most common form of transport is a three-wheeled taxi called a tuk tuk, which is not very accommodating of large suitcases. Your best bet is to pack light, so here are a few specific tips for packing when visiting Goa.
Luggage
No matter what you have planned for your Goa adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.
Sunglasses
Most people choose Goa as their vacation destination because of its fantastic beaches. However, the sunlight here gets reflected by the sand and sea pretty intensely. Even those used to spending their days outside will want to wear sunglasses to shelter their eyes from the harsh rays.
Sunscreen
Load up on waterproof sunscreen rated at SPF 50 or higher. It’s important to pack this before arriving; some travelers have found that the branded sunscreen in Goa is fake or simply ineffective at protecting against sunburn.
Hats
To keep cool and to protect your hair, eyes, and skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, you’ll want to bring and wear a good hat or cap. A wide-brimmed hat works.
Swimsuit
Bring at least one quality swimsuit or pair of swimming trunks. Most experienced Goa travelers say you don’t need to bring your own beach towel, because they take up too much space in your luggage and can be cheaply bought in Goa.
Backpack
A small backpack is a must-have for day trips around Goa and its beaches. With a backpack, you can efficiently stuff the small items you’ll need throughout the sunny day (e.g., sunscreen for repeat applications) without feeling overloaded. Of course, be sure to keep valuable belongings (passport, money, etc.) in a secured space and never leave these items unattended on the beach or elsewhere.
Other Items
Many Goa travelers recommend packing small toys for the young children you’ll undoubtedly encounter during your travels around Goa. Some people suggest grabbing a few small toys such as matchbox cars, early learning toys, balloons, Frisbees, jump ropes, and similar non-batteried items that can be readily used by even the poorest of children. Pencils, crayons, paper, and coloring books likewise make great gifts for young kids encountered on the streets.
Nothing Fancy
The operative word is casual in Goa, so don’t bring fancy clothes, dark denims, sweaters or jewelry. High heels aren’t a great idea as the ground can be quite uneven and you don’t want to trip. It’s hot and humid so think thin tops, cropped cotton trousers and loose skirts, shorts and t-shirts and bathing suits. Wear clothes that are light cotton, comfortable to walk around in, and airy.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies
Mosquitoes are everywhere in India and you can be sure that Goa is no exception. Since you are often outdoors bring plenty of insect repellent and use it always. Avoid perfume and after-shave as they attract all the bugs!
Bring plenty of strong sunscreen to keep your skin protected, (and double your protection by wearing a hat).
You can bring medicine for a possible upset stomach or the runs, but apparently, local chemists are very well-stocked with their own brands of insect repellent, aspirin, stomach or diarrhea medicine, as they know well common tourist ailments. So if you’re in trouble, visit the local drug store. Plus, prices are very inexpensive!

Pack Light and Load up in Goa
Tourists rave about the locally made clothes, hats, bead necklaces, funky tops, bags and snazzy footwear, all at low prices and excellent value. So bring a half-empty suitcase, visit some colorful flea markets, and have some shopping fun. And when you’re done, go for a swim, and drink good wine.
