Yamba Things to Do
Yamba is a popular tourist destination located in New South Wales, Australia. As you plan your trip to Yamba, take a look at some of the most interesting things to do during your stay.
Go Shopping
In the main center of town, you’ll find most of Yamba’s shops. You can easily while away an afternoon browsing the merchandise for sale in the area. Music lovers will enjoy finding collectibles from a variety of genres and musical eras, as well as some of the latest releases. This is also the place to go to find surf shops, book stores, and clothing stores.
While you’re there, you can pick up any groceries that you need, stop at a bank, or use an ATM. You can also stop for delicious homemade ice cream from a local shop.
Spookies Beach and the Blue Pool
If you’re looking for a place to relax and soak up some sun, Spookies Beach is the place to go. Despite the name, you won’t find any spooks here – just a sandy cove full of rocks that have been smoothed over time by the water. If you visit when the tide is out, you can explore the rock pools that are left behind.
A short drive away, you’ll find the Angourie Blue Pool. This former quarry is now a deep swimming hole that’s popular with swimmers because of its clear blue water. Signs in the area warn swimmers against diving into the water, though you may find swimmers doing so anyway. If you walk toward the beach, you’ll find a rock shelf separating the pool from the ocean. The Angourie Blue Pool is accessible all year long and free to visit.
Yamba Lighthouse
Travel to Pilot Hill to check out the Yamba lighthouse. The current lighthouse was built in the mid-1950s to replace an older lighthouse that was demolished to make way for a reservoir. The modern lighthouse stands 18 meters tall.
Also on Pilot Hill, you’ll find a replica of the old lighthouse and lightkeeper’s residence. The replica is the home of the community radio station, but it’s well made and painted convincingly enough that you could believe you were looking at the old lighthouse if you didn’t know better. Compare the size and style of the replica to that of the new lighthouse to see how construction of these buildings have changed.
Yamba isn’t a large city, but it’s fun to explore. Make sure that these stops are on your Yamba itinerary.
