Cook Islands What to Pack
Sprinkled across a large region, Cook Islands, a nation built up of 15 islands, is located in the South Pacific. When you make a plan to visit these beautiful islands you’ll need to know what to pack for your vacation.
Luggage
One suitcase and one carry on should fit all the necessities. It’s a good idea to give dual purpose to your carry on by using a beach bag, that way you have something to carry your beach towel in at your destination.
Pack Only What You Need
Pack light. You’ll be on the beach most of the time, so bring a bathing suit, shorts, and t-shirts. Reef shoes are popular since there is a tremendous amount of coral reefs that surround the islands. When you travel in town, you’ll need to wear something casual. Because beach attire is not appropriate in town, consider packing cotton summer attire, such as a dress, button-down shirt, and shorts or pants. Warm rain seems to penetrate the Cook Islands often. You will need to bring a rain jacket and an umbrella.

Outdoor Equipment for Your Trip
You won’t spend a lot of time indoors when you travel to the Cook Islands. They are well known for snorkeling adventures. You should bring your snorkeling gear when you decide to visit. You can get masks, fins, travel bags, and a snorkel at your local sporting goods store. If it is your first time, you may want to rent these items when you get there. Any toiletries for outdoor activities (or indoor, for that matter) should be brought from home—though most can be found on the island.

Three Miscellaneous Items You’ll Want to Bring
- Camera – Consider bringing an underwater or waterproof camera for your snorkeling trip.
- Mosquito Repellent – Because there is quite a bit of rain in the area, packing a can of mosquito spray is not a bad idea.
- Sunscreen – Protect your skin. Most of your time will be spent on the beach and in the water.
