Shediac, Canada, will surprise you. A small city in Canada, it gets its mark on the map because of lobster. It is the lobster capital of the world and very proud of its history of lobster fishing, as evidenced by other thing that puts it on the map, a giant lobster statue—one of the biggest statues in Canada. There will be plenty to see and do during your stay in Shediac.

The Lobster

The main attraction in Shediac is the giant lobster statue. You can climb it and ride it if you want—but just don’t fall off. Kids will always want to climb it so parents are advised to supervise any playing on the statue. Recently, this statue even made it into a GM car commercial along with a number of other large statues in Canada. Stop by the gift shops beside the statue for some unusual lobster themed souvenirs.

Parlee Beach

Known to have some of the warmest waters north of Virginia, it is a well known beach in New Brunswick and across eastern Canada. It is also one of the many provincial parks located in New Brunswick and is a really beautiful place to spend a day and watch the sunset. There is a daily fee of $8 per car if you park at the beach.

The Town

Shediac is small enough that you can get pretty much anywhere on your bike. It is an upscale city, so cottages and large homes make it a nice place to take a bike ride and explore. If you are looking to experience some of the pleasant Acadian culture of the area, look for live music often hosted July through August or visit the drive-in theater. The Neptune drive-in theater is very popular with locals and visitors alike, and is a cheap night out that feels like a blast from the past.

For Kids

Sandspit is more of a kids destination as it is a small place with carnival activities, although adults can enjoy it too. There are Go-Karts, water bumpers, mini-golf, and arcade games that can offer a pretty full day’s worth of fun for kids the right age.
