Pula Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Pula Shopping

Pula is a seafront city that was and still is an important place for trade. If you’re looking for inside tips for shopping, you can expect the shops, stores and best buys to focus heavily on the specialty foods of the area.

The Pula Markets

The Pula city market comes highly recommended, with more than 40 different traders and artisans selling fruit, fish, and a variety of goods and accessories. The Art Nouveau building is housed in was constructed more than a hundred years ago, and the steel work is as every bit as impressive today as it was then. The characters and activity in this place draws people in as much as whatever is being sold that day. You can find a variety of live seafood (besides just lobster) at Pula market. People come to see the color, noise, light and scents at each stall, and some families have been selling at this market for generations. Buy fresh flowers, accessories or spices here. Open everyday from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., you can learn more about the people, diets, and trends in Croatia from this happening area. If you can’t make it during open hours though, there are general supermarkets around where you can pick up snacks, bread and seafood.

Specialties to Taste

You can find pretty much any food you want here, even if it’s not native to the area. However, you should definitely try certain Pula treats while you’re here. White truffles are native to Istria, and the people even have a festival to celebrate them. You can find your own truffles at a shop called Zigante in Pula. Croatia also happens to be known for its watermelons, and they’re typically in supply wherever you happen to go. You should also be sure to try sheep’s cheese, as this is the most produced type of cheese in the country. Probably the most well-known product of Pula is their fresh fish. Sold at the peak of freshness, you can get fresh sole, perch, red mullet and shrimp. You won’t go wrong picking up a few delicacies if you’re lucky enough to have a place to cook them.
