Naperville Things to Do
Naperville, Illinois is a suburb of Chicago that feels like your typical Midwestern town. The city offers many things to do for tourists because of its rich history and new buildings.
Moses Tower and Millennium Carillon
The Moses Tower was built to recognize the new millennium in 2000. This bell tower is located in Riverwalk Park that offers a great backdrop for photographs.
Within the Moses Tower is the Millennium Carillon, which was completed in time for the new millennium. It is a grand carillon spanning six octaves, which makes it one of a kind for its size. During the warmer months, there are concerts on Tuesday evenings. You can also climb to the top of the Moses Tower on select weekends.
Naperville’s Civil War History
You can learn about this city’s role in the North vs. South battle by visiting the Naper Settlement. Every May, city organizers host the “Civil Wars Days” event. The grounds are transformed into a Civil War encampment, complete with demonstrations, shopping, and real camping. A new battle is re-created every day.
Naper Settlement hosts other historical events, too. Besides Civil War Days, there is an Old Fashioned Baseball Game, plus Octoberfest, Art Fairs, summer concerts, and more events on the schedule. You are likely to find something interesting to do at the settlement when you visit.
The Riverwalk
The Riverwalk is a key gathering point in Naperville. Called the “Crown Jewel” of the city, The Riverwalk consists of 1.75 miles of brick paths that are easily accessible throughout the year. Along the path are small parks, fountains, bridges over the river, sculptures, and gathering points to enjoy the nice weather. This is a perfect tourist spot for families, teens, and older adults walking the path and enjoying the amenities.
Overall, Naperville offers a great blend of history and current Americana to enjoy. You should find many great things to do while staying in this Midwestern city.
