Pulau Ubin Transportation
Pulau Ubin is an island that is a sparsely populated area northeast of Singapore.
Bumboat
To get to Pulau Ubin, you have to take the bumboat at Changi Ferry Point Jetty. This boat operates 24 hours a day, though there is no set timetable and the boat will only leave when there are 12 passengers. Each passenger will have to pay $2, and if you are bringing your own bike there, you will have to pay extra. The journey from the jetty to Ubin is only around a five-minute journey, while Changi Point Ferry Terminal is only a few minutes’ walk from Changi Village. All passengers are requested to register with the bumboat operator, and no ticket will be issued. Payment is to be made once onboard.
Bicycles
The most highly recommended way of traveling around the island is to cycle. You can find bicycle kiosks everywhere in town. Although prices are typically quoted as being around $2, be prepared to pay at least $5 for the rental of a bicycle if you are looking at the better or newer ones. Those for rental at $2 per day are either for children or older models.
You can bring your own bicycle with you on the bumboat from Singapore, or you can hire one cheaply for the day. If haven’t ridden a bicycle for some time, the main square in the village is ideal for a bit of practice. Take a spin around before setting out to explore the island. Alternatively, there is a small car park near the meeting point, close to the jetty, where you can practice and refresh your biking skills. Once you do, take off, there are many routes to choose from. Paved roads reach all major areas of the surrounding areas for easy access. Off-road routes range from easy trails to challenging ones.
Vehicles
The registered motor vehicles on Pulau Ubin start with the letters PU and have a green license plate.
You can hire these to taxi you around the island on a tour, but tourists should try to bargain for a better price before starting the journey. The drivers will typically share with you a history of Ubin ,and bring you to places that you would typically never come across. Some may even invite you to their house on the island.
