Since the small island of Malta is only 25 miles across at its furthest point, travelers may not think much of getting around here. There are, however, a few things to know ahead of time about transportation to avoid a hassle.
By Air
Most visitors arrive on Malta’s sunny shores by the international airport in Luqa. The airport is small, clean, organized, and has friendly staff who can speak English very well. It’s easy to hail a cab or jump on a bus once you’ve picked up your bags.
By Bus
Marsaxlokk is best reached by taking the yellow #27 bus from Valetta. The Marsaxlokk bus terminal is two blocks from the downtown harbor, conveniently located near most hotels and attractions in the seaside city. The buses in Malta are owned by the Arriva company. The #27 bus runs every thirty minutes, making it easy to grab the next ride in the event that you miss the first opportunity. The bus ride itself is only 35 minutes from the capital city to the resort town.
On Foot
The truly adventurous can take a hike around the seascape of the city or through the hills in order to get to their destination. Since it’s about five miles, the walk can be done in a morning or an evening, depending on when you plan to arrive. Be certain to take extra drinking water and sunscreen to keep yourself going on a hot day.
