Beverly Hills Things to Do
Beverly Hills has long proven synonymous with the rich and famous of Los Angeles. If you want to know where to spend your time in this storied part of Southern California, then check out this list of Beverly Hills things to do.
Rodeo Drive
If you have the money, shop at the famous retailers than line at this city’s most well-known three-block perimeter, such as Armani, Cartier, Hermes, Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, and Harry Winston. If you don’t, admire the window displays or talk to the salesclerks who are very nice and accommodating. You can also just take a seat at a sidewalk cafe or by a restaurant window, so you can gawk at the well-heeled who arrived in luxurious automobiles that are parked by eager valets.
Trolley Tour
You could drive down this city’s more famous streets and stop every time you spot something worth looking at. You’ll definitely earn the blast of a car horn. Or you can enjoy the sights in complete relaxation by going through a 40-minute open-air trolley tour of stately neighborhoods, movie star homes, and famous landmarks. Just don’t come when it is raining because no trolleys are to be found.
The Museum of Television and Radio
Beverly Hills is not just all style but also substance, being home to one of the two locations of this museum. (The other is in New York City.) This venue offers changing exhibits and samples from its library of more than 75,000 radio and television programs. Plus there is a gift shop that is a must for fans of TV trivia. Admission is free although a contribution is suggested.
Greystone Mansion
Live for a full day as a city resident, in this case, the Doheny family of the early 1930s. Two areas of their mansion, built in 1928, are open to the public: the formal gardens with its lush green vistas highlighted by a large fountain; and the pool and inner courtyard. You can visit the interior during musical and theatrical performances, or during the monthly mansion tours, conducted by park rangers. Be sure to reserve in advance to avoid disappointment at was once the most expensive house in California.
Celebrity Sightings
Don’t be gauche and ask celebrities for their autographs while they’re having their photo shoots here. Instead, wait until they have a breaj. Many appreciate a fan going up to them unless they’re having a private moment, of course.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
This is the professional organization for those involved in motion pictures with over 6,000 members. Their Academy Center for Motion Picture Study on Wilshire Boulevard is six floors of strictly business. But on the fourth floor, you’ll find a small gallery that is open to the public and filled with exhibits to the movie industry. Phone first to inquire about what exhibits or events are available.
