Virginia Water Things to Do
While you are in Windsor, be sure to check out Virginia Water things to do. There are many terrific sights to see and things to do in this park.
Virginia Water or Windsor Great Park?
Technically Virginia Water is part of Windsor Great Park, but the locals consider it a separate park. It’s popular because of the forest and the large lake you can walk around if you’re up to walking or bicycling around on the 4.5 mile trail. Don’t worry, there are plenty of benches cut from logs that offer comfy seats if you get tired.
Enjoy the Local Wildlife and See Real Roman Ruins
If you’re lucky, you might see a few pheasants or other interesting but harmless wildlife. You’ll also see Canadian Maples which will sprout helicopter seeds in the summer.
If you walk along the lake, you’ll be surprised to see real Roman Ruins that originally came from Libya near Tripoli. These ruins came from Leptis Magna and sat in London’s British Museum since the 1800s when they were acquired. Now they sit by the water so you can enjoy them.
Totem Pole and Waterfall in Virginia Waters
Another eclectic site in Virginia Waters is an authentic totem pole, carved by Chief Mungo Martin of the indigenous tribe from British Columbia called the Kwakiutl. The chief carved this beautiful piece of artwork from a 600 year old redwood. You can see many different animals and people carved into it, so be sure to visit it. Not far from the totem is a small waterfall or cascade which you can walk over, but you’ll need boots if you don’t want wet shoes and feet.
See Where Harry Potter Movies Were Filmed
Fans of Harry Potter will be delighted to know that two of the Harry Potter movies (The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire) had scenes shot here. You’ll be able to look around and maybe identify where the movie was filmed.
