Monaco Transportation
Monaco is only 0.8 square miles, but you still need to get around. Monaco transportation is pretty straightforward – you have multiple options to get where you’re going.
Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco – CAM
Whether you’re staying in Monaco or visiting for the day, if you’re budget conscious you may want to consider the public bus line, Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco, or CAM for short. The busses run from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm every day, with night service from 9:20 pm to 12:20 am and until 4:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are inexpensive and easy to obtain at the automated ticket machine at each stop or from the bus driver, plus there are bus stops at all the major tourist destinations.
Trains
You can take the train to and from Monaco, but keep in mind that the train station is located inside of a mountain, high above the waterfront. You may want to consider taking a bus or taxi when you depart, rather than walking to the station. A new train station was built close to the old one that has three levels and may be confusing to new travelers. Train tickets are purchased through the French train system and service the major areas around Monaco – Nice, Cannes, Menton, and Antibes.
Walking
Monaco is a very pedestrian-friendly city due to its compact layout, size, and the fact that most of the tourist destinations are concentrated in to primary areas. The roads are generally flat (unless you’re in the mountain area), and there are escalators which service the steeper roads for those that need assistance. If you get tired, you can always hail a taxi cab or hop on the bus.
