Miami Beach Warnings and Dangers
Stay safe and enjoy Miami Beach with these crucial tips.
At The Beach
Do not go to the beach after dark, when it’s filled with drug dealers, crack heads and trouble makers.
Don’t underestimate the sun in Miami – wear sunscreen at the beach, even if you don’t burn easily.
A shark encounter is a possibility, although you should’t worry too much about that if you use common sense. Avoid murky water, don’t go in the ocean after a big storm and stay where other people and life guards are.
Watch for the rip current signs at the life guard stations. Stay close to shore while the flags are up.
Creepy Crawlies
Florida has a lot of creepy, crawly creatures such as such as poisonous snakes, alligators, HUGE bugs and jellyfish. If there have been a number of jellyfish sightings, there will be a warning sign posted at the lifeguard station.
Cab Drivers
Don’t wear your Rolex, carry cash, or use a flashy credit card. If someone offers to share a cab or someone else calls one for you, do not take it. People have been mugged, especially leaving the bar at night, by unscrupulous cab drivers. Uber, lyft, or walking is safer.
Date Rape Drugs
Don’t ever leave your drink unattended when you go out, and don’t go out alone or with a stranger. Unfortunately, there is a rape culture in Miami, and it’s usually the same guys who do it repeatedly. Ladies, watch out for each other and keep a close eye on your drink.
Hurricanes
Miami is a prime location for hurricanes. In the case of a bad hurricane you need to have everything you need to survive without any assistance, water or electricity for a MINIMUM of 72 hours! It is up to you to be self sufficient. Officially the Atlantic Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30th. However, the most hurricanes occur from mid-September to mid-October.
