Shah Alam Transportation
Known for its majesty and tradition, Shah Alam is a must if you’re visiting Malaysia. To get around without hassle, keep these taxi, train and bus tips in mind when traveling to and from the city.
Transit Systems in Shah Alam
The Rapid Transit in Malaysia is appropriately named People Mover, and it’s a monorail system that is elevated 16 km off the ground. Fares are extremely reasonable, so you can spend more money on souvenirs. You can’t get transfer to the Light Rail Transit though, meaning you’ll have to go across the street if you’re combining both forms of transport to get to your destination. People enjoy the ability to look down on the streets below them, and the tracks conveniently run from KL Sentral to Titiwangsa. You’re likely to find the stop you need along the way. Use turnstiles and electronic controls to get and out of the stations. The Light Rail Transit is very similar to the People Mover Rapid Transit (e.g., cheap, convenient, uses electronic controls) with 2 main lines for you to use: Kelana Jaya (PUTRA) and Arpang (STAR.) Between the two, you should be able to get around the capital quite easily.
Taxis and Cars
Taxis are available in Shah Alam, but the reviews are mixed as to their efficacy and the honesty of the drivers. Some tourists seem to have great experiences, while others report complicated rides with several (seemingly unnecessary) stops and inflated fares. If you don’t know very much about the area, it may be easy for a driver to increase their rates, so proceed with caution if you use taxis. There’s also a mini-bus you can take to get to all the different parts of Shah Alam. It stops in major sections like PKNS Complex and The Wet World. The style of the driver though may be aggressive though (too fast, etc.), so again, proceed with caution. Klang Bus Station is a great place to start as you can find a variety of routes there throughout the city. If you choose to rent a car, you can access Shah Alam from 5 different highways, but it does come at the expense of tolls along the way.
