Bowling Green is a quaint, historical town, which offers nice sightseeing for those interested in historical buildings and has the National Corvette Museum for those interested in cars.

Historic Sites

The best way to really enjoy the downtown historical section of Bowling Green is to take a pleasant stroll. You will see buildings that are from the 1800’s, which include the Warren County Courthouse. In front of the courthouse is a Veterans War Memorial of life-sized, bronze statues created to remember our servicemen and women who fought for their country.

There are many large mansions to admire in the downtown area of Bowling Green that are listed in the National Historic Register. The Town Square has a nice fountain.

This area is characterized by the restored facades of the 19th-century buildings, a renovated art-deco movie theater, thriving businesses, and bustling professionals who quickly walk past the historic fountain, statues, flowers, shrubs, mature trees, and some who enjoy taking a rest on the benches.

For a more natural setting, there is the nice River Walk Park that overlooks the Barren River. There are placards on this walk giving the history during the Civil War and information about the soldiers who fought in this area.

Museums

Lovers of American “muscle cars,” will be delighted with the rare vintage Corvettes on display at the National Corvette Museum. In this museum, they have vintage Corvettes that are in pristine condition. Examples of Corvettes are on display for many of the past years, all the way up to the most modern Corvettes. They have race cars, pace cars, and cars that will make your heart skip a beat if you are a lover of Corvettes.

This museum has the grandest assembly of Corvette automobiles in the entire USA. This is because a major assembly plant for Corvettes is also in Bowling Green. It can be visited for a one-hour guided tour as well. If you love cars, it is worth the trip to Bowling Green, just to visit the National Corvette Museum and the Corvette Assembly Plant.

Religious Experiences

Even if you are not necessarily a religious person, it is worth a visit to the four major churches in Bowling Green. The Catholic St. Joseph Cathedral is really beautiful. The cathedral is a brick building built in 1870. It has beautiful stone arches, a high bell tower, and colorful stained glass windows. It was designed to be the same pattern as that of the cathedral in Cologne, Germany.

The stone-built Christ Episcopal Church is an amazing feat of architecture from the time when they did not have all the modern construction techniques. All the stones were laid by hand to build this church.

Another beautiful stone-built church, in the historical downtown section of Bowling Green, is the State Street Methodist Church that was constructed during the 1880’s.  It is huge and gorgeous.

Not to be outdone by the others is the Victory Baptist Church that has a huge entrance and a wonderful capped dome in the center of the roof standing about five stories high.
