Gatlinburg – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Gatlinburg What to Pack

Travelers on their way to Gatlinburg have so much to look forward to. It’s a beautiful city with plenty of places (and mountains!) to explore. As you get ready for your vacation, keep these packing tips in mind.

Luggage

No matter what you have planned for your Gatlinburg adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.

Pack a Variety of Clothing

Although the time of year you visit will dictate most of your clothing options, make sure you pack a few extra items for the unseasonably warm or cold days. You’d be lucky to go five days without a weather shift in Gatlinburg.

Spring: Early spring visitors should keep their winter coats with them, as well as some sweaters. If you’re headed to Gatlinburg in April, toss a few T-shirts in your bag.

Summer: T-shirts and shorts will be your go-to as it’s pretty warm this time of year. Hikers will want to pack a pair of long pants, though.

Fall: Your summer gear will be appropriate through September, but once October starts to hit be prepared for cold days and colder nights. Sweaters will be your best friend here.

Winter: You’ll want a heavy-duty jacket, sweaters, and maybe even long-johns. Make sure you also pack some winter accessories — gloves, a warm scarf, and hat.

Don’t Forget Your Camera

This is one trip where you don’t want to get caught without your camera. The sunrise and sunsets are simply breathtaking in the Smokies and make for a beautiful keepsake photo when you return home. Plus, documenting your hikes through the mountains can be a great way to reflect back on your trip! Travelers say to bring the best camera you can afford — whether that’s a professional DSLR or a disposable camera from the corner store, it doesn’t matter, as long as you have something.

Be Prepared for Rainy Days

“Raindrops keep falling on my head” … You might find this lyric stuck in your head during your stay in Gatlinburg. The area is known to experience sudden showers, so an umbrella and rain boots are a must. You don’t want to get caught on the mountain in a rainstorm!

Get the Hiking Essentials

If you’re traveling to Gatlinburg, chances are you’re planning to hike, which means you’re going to need some gear. To start, you’re going to want hiking boots. You can find nice pairs for around $50 and it’s well worth the investment! If you can’t splurge on boots, pack your best and most comfortable walking shoes.

Next, water bottles. Staying hydrated is critical when you’re out hiking the mountain. We suggest bringing a reusable water bottle or hydration pack if you have one. And last, a first-aid kit. Accidents happen and you don’t want to be unprepared. Make sure your kit has bandages, antiseptic wipes, gauze pads, poison ivy treatment, pain relievers and any prescription medications you require.

There’s plenty more you’ll need for a safe hike through the Smokies, but these three things should be at the top of your list.
