Yogyakarta Transportation
There are a few different ways you can get around Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Read on for tips on Yogyakarta transportation.
Rental Cars
You can rent a car in Yogyakarta with a variety of vehicle types, SUV or motorcycle. With the price varies according to the vehicle you rent, the average SUV costs around USD $50 for 12 hours, including driver and gasoline. A mini bus costs about $100 for 12 hours, including driver and gasoline. A motorcycle rental will run you about $10 per day, excluding petrol.
Rickshaw
There are a lot of rickshaws for hire along Malioboro. You can try to bargain for a fixed price before you start the ride, but most drivers don’t speak English. If you would like to try this type of transportation you could ask your hotel concierge for help.
Bus
Yogyakarta has good public bus routes to serve the locals and tourists. There are designated stops which are clearly marked on a map. Each stop’s name is indicated by the landmark nearest the location – for example ” Terminal Prambanan” means the stop is near the Prambanan Temple. The bus stop is built like a trailer, with an entrance gate where you can buy a ticket, preferably with a small bill, and wait for the right bus to come. If you’re not sure whether it’s the right bus, you can always check with the man standing next to the door. Sometimes the bus gets crowded and you can’t hear the announcement for the next stop, especially since they speak in Indonesian, but you can have the guide on the bus point your stop out. They are helpful.
Airport
Yogyakarta has a small airport. Once you arrive at the airport, head to the queue for the immigration counters. After immigration, you’ll immediately exit the building and come out by the car rental counter, ATM, money exchange and tourist service office.
There is a underpass leading to the other side of the airport where the railway station and bus stop are located.
