Darwin Shopping
Shoppers looking for some well-earned retail therapy while on their vacation will find they are able to shop to their heart’s content in Darwin.
Smith Street Mall
Every major city in Australia has one street devoted to the art of shopping. In Darwin, it’s Smith Street. Here you will find your department stores, boutiques, cafes, restaurants, shoe shops, pharmacies, music and bookstores, discount shops and shops selling aboriginal artefacts/art. Essentially, it’s the main shopping artery of Darwin and is an eclectic mix of inner city shopping.
Stores on the Dock
The cruise terminal has a mini-market of Darwin products. Items you can find include:
- Blue Cypress Essential Oil
- Clothing and crafts
- Handcrafted wood puzzles
- Kunwinjiku Aboriginal art
- Opals and diamonds
- Shell necklaces and other small items
Some of these are better priced than equitable products in town.
Mindil Markets
The Mindil Markets are one of the most famous markets in Darwin. Held every Thursday and Sunday, this market is a great way to discover local wares and find lots of little crafts, knickknacks, jewelry, paintings and other items. There’s also a huge selection of international foods for sale. Not to mention it’s located in a great place to enjoy the sunset on Mindil beach. There is also often entertainment too.
Parap Markets
Held Saturdays year-round at Parap Shopping Village, it’s one of Darwin’s older markets and it’s a really cool atmosphere. There is a lot to choose from and vendors sell very good quality. During the wet season, the stalls are covered.
Mitchell Centre
Darwin’s newest shopping center, it hosts an assortment of shops and a Coles Supermarket. Shops are open seven days a week and Coles has extended hours. And, after lugging around all your newfound possessions, there are many cafes where you can take a load of your feet and refresh yourself.
