Legaspi Things to Do
Are you headed to the beautiful city of Legaspi on your next journey? This beautiful area of the Phillipines has plenty to see and do, but here are some of the best things to do and see while in Legaspi.
Mayon Volcano National Park
One of the most popular areas of Legaspi is the Mayon Volcano National Park. At the center of the national park is the volcano itself, where you can lounge around, or for the more active tourist, hike and bike around the volcano area. The Mayon Volcano National Park is also home to hot springs where tourists and locals can relax and enjoy the beauty around them. 2,000 feet above sea level is a winding road that gives you an outstanding view of the Volcano itself and is a great feature for those who want some stunning pictures while in Legaspi.
Cagsawa Ruins
Cagsawa was, at one point, a town. In 1814 the Mayon Volcano erupted, covering the entire town and approximately 1,200 people, many who tried to take shelter in the local church. While it is a reminder of how powerful the Mayon Volcano can be, there is a great photo opportunity as well as locals selling various trinkets and souvenirs that you can take home with you. Unlike the viewing area at the Mayon Volcano National Park, entrance to the Cagsawa Ruins is not free but is only about 10 Philippine pesos to gain access to this astonishing attraction.
Japanese Tunnels
For a small fee, you can explore and crawl around in the Japanese Tunnels and learn from a guide about their significance to the area in the past. Locals say that the Japanese were able to hide their arsenal in the tunnels during World War Two, but you can hear all about it for yourself from the guide. The tunnel is lit, and slightly cooler than its surroundings due to its stone walls. It’s a major tourist attraction and one you won’t want to miss.
The Embarcadero
A great place to relax, go shopping, and enjoy the views is the newer attraction, the Embarcadero. This waterfront development is home to many different attractions, restaurants, cafes, boutiques, and more. While you’re there, you can check out the lighthouse, complete with theatrical lighting at night. You can also catch excellent views of the volcano from the promenade or enjoy live music on the Celebration Plaza. The Embarcadero is a popular family friendly attraction for both locals and tourists and a great way to experience Legaspi while in the Philippines.
