Venice is an Italian city built on a lagoon. It is comprised of a series of small islands connected by canals and bridges. One of these small islands is Burano. The island is especially noticeable because of the brightly colored homes that rest on it. It is also home to some great lace workers. Here are some transportation tips for those that are thinking of visiting the Venetian island of Burano.

Getting to Burano

From Venecia, there are a series of boats running to the island of Burano all day. The trips usually take about a half an hour, but can sometimes be a little longer. The trip is very pleasurable because of the great views provided along the way. Going through the lagoons to pick up more passengers and then traveling out into the open water is a great experience. You will see many other iconic islands along the way.

Vaporettos

Vaporettos are what the locals call the boats that take you from the main part of Venice out the island of Burano. The best line to take to get there is the LN line. The acronym stands for Laguna Nord and it is indicated by the an olive green color. There are a couple of other lines available as well depending on where you are staying in Venice. Buy your ticket at the Fond, unless you have a boat card. They are both already validated when you go to board the vessel. There are a few different options on lines to get both to and from the island of Burano.

Don’t Waste a Moment

Make sure you are paying attention while on the boat to avoid missing your stop. On the less busy stops, they might not even ask to see if anyone wants to get off there.
