Reno Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Reno Warnings and Dangers

Reno is a popular tourist location in the U.S. state of Nevada. But, if you travel to Reno without proper training or awareness, you could find danger.

Altitude

Reno is an ideal tourist spot because of its casinos and proximity to the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. Many visitors to do not realize that altitude is a factor, though. It appears that Reno is located on a flat plain, but the city is actually located at a high elevation of nearly 5,000 feet above sea level.

Be careful if you have health conditions. Some visitors experience unexpected respiratory and other health problems, especially if they do not get proper sleep or consume too many adult beverages. Do not push yourself if you start to experience breathing issues while enjoying the city.

Casinos

If you want to test your gambling skills, there are plenty of casinos in Reno. However, these are professional companies that want you to have a good time but also take your money. When you go to a casino, take only enough money that you are willing to part with. Otherwise, you are liable to lose all of your vacation money on a so-called sure bet. The smartest way to gamble is to hit the penny and nickel slot machines.

Then, there are things to be concerned about outside of the casinos. Because casino cities have a tendency to attract the wrong kind of people, Reno has a higher than average crime rate. If you rent a car while staying in Reno, make sure you get proper insurance, as you could easily have your stereo (or more) stolen from your car.

There are also vagrants milling around town, especially during the summer months. If you walk around your hotel or a casino at night, be warned about the potential dangers.

Snakes

Because of Reno’s desert location, be cautious about snakes. You might find a rattlesnakes right outside your car door, under your bed, or, more rarely, even in the toilet. If you are out hiking or rock climbing, you might encounter a rattlesnake hiding between rocks or under the brush. Whether you are in the city or exploring nature, be aware of your surroundings. You never know where a poisonous snake might appear.

Overall, Reno offers many great things to do, but you should not travel to Reno unless you are physically and financially secure. You don’t want to end up sick or broke after visiting this beautiful, mountainous city.
